Simple portraits – those that focus on the face and not much else – are probably the most captivating images. They speak to our shared humanity and connect us to the subject, whether we’re gazing into the eyes of a stranger or upon the face of our most dearly beloved.
Sawyer’s face appears wise and knowing masked in youth. Interesting capture.
I agree. Faces are some of the most intriguing photographs of all. This one is haunting.
The haunting quality is due to a couple things…I had the white balance set wrong so the coloration is odd and also, this was among my very first shots with my birthday present: a Lensbaby. It allows you to bend the picture plane, ideally keeping one sweet spot of focus in the image. Takes some practice, but it’s going to be lots of fun to play with!
