See you there!

P.S. When I say ‘there’ I mean tonight’s Opening Reception of Growing Strong – Tonight from 7-9pm. Live music, snacks, cash bar.
P.P.S. Next week I promise to share some new work. I’m thinking ‘signs of spring’…
This is downtown the way it should be – I think I may have gasped! Shiny and glowing, full of wonder, whimsy and sincere delight, conveying some of the magic of Christmas and the charm of the city. Bellissimo!
I think of this corner as our Times Square – but with our own Minneapolis landmark and modest mini-Apple size. Funny how the billboards make the mountains of crippling snow seem insignificant…not at all the case, of course.
The buildings downtown seem a little dystopian on a day like this. Still, I find their moodiness compelling. Better a skyscraper on a dismal day, than a strip mall in the sun…

The Nokomis bridge evokes the seaside. Crossing it into the city, I find refuge in the simple act of coming home, as if we inhabited a remote island sanctuary. And, in a way, we do.
The rain came in torrents, soggy sheets twisting in the wind. An unwelcome guest, it stayed too long, swallowed up the day, and left us damp and gray amid the puddles.

A favorite fountain, resembling a dandelion exploding with seed. Colossal public art, radial symmetry, ode to the much-maligned dandelion weed- all wrapped into one glorious burst of water, air, and sunlight. Thanks, Ben Berger.

These creepy automatons are playin’ ball all over the city. Foreboding and futuristic, Metropolis meets the seventh-inning stretch. Peanuts, Cracker Jack and Joe Mauer über alles. Yikes…

The way the sky dwarfs everything else is truly awesome. Any glimpse of sprawling, cloud-filled vista is a reminder of proportion; it’s a big world, and our grandest creations are just tiny dots on the big, wide canvas.
I’m always looking up at the buildings. Then a glance across the shiny, black surface of a parked car revealed a fresh perspective – a dynamic, distorted collage right before my eyes.
