say cheese

Yesterday was a marathon day of travel, art installation, and opening reception. There were also snacks.

The show is a collection called ‘city/seen’ on view at the Emy Frentz Arts Guild (Mankato, MN) till June 17.

Any excuse to eat cheese & crackers…

All Aboard: Final Hours on Kickstarter

Today is the final day of my Kickstarter campaign in support of my first solo gallery exhibition.

I’m thrilled to announce that I reached my project goal last night. I feel incredibly blessed and relieved!

If you still want to be part of the fun and claim an artful reward visit my Kickstarter project page to become a backer.

! 15 HOURS TO GO !

Thank you to every single backer who helped me reach my goal!

I’ll post the final gratitude list after the campaign wraps up TONIGHT at 11:59pm Central Time.

passing the hat

Hi there. I know I’ve been a very distant blog friend lately. It’s been a very hectic year so far and not showing any signs of slowing down. That said, I miss this space and I have been thinking about how to resuscitate it in the new year.

I’m showing up today to tell you about my first solo exhibition opening in just THREE WEEKS. Oh, yikes. I have a lot to do…Here’s a little taste of what I’m putting together:

Do you want to hear something funny? I haven’t told anyone this yet – The title of the show is actually “everyday extraordinary” but after I created the graphics, and the slideshow and the Kickstarter project I realized I’d reversed the title on EVERYTHING. So, we’re off and running with ‘Extraordinary Everyday’.

If you know me, you understand that while this reversal may seem like a small mistake, a nuance really, it is like a piece of sand in the shoe of my rather particular writer’s brain 🙂

Anyway, solo shows are exciting and important and also expensive. This is where the hat passing comes in.

I am running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production costs for the show by pre-selling prints – many of these images are available in limited editions for the first time.

If you follow the blog, you will see many familiar images in the show, hopefully some of  your favorites.

Please VISIT my KICKSTARTER PROJECT PAGE to see my project video,  watch a SLIDESHOW preview of the exhibition, learn more about the show and become a backer. Also, if you’d share the project with friends by posting to your blog or social media, that would be amazing.

My goal is $3,000 to produce 30-40 framed exhibition prints and travel to the gallery to install the show and attend the opening reception. As of this post, the project is 35% funded with 8 days to go. The deadline to contribute is Friday, August 8th.

Thanks for checking out the project and for the interest and support you’ve always shown me. I look forward to sharing new pictures and connecting with you more in the near future. – Terra

long time no see + two openings

Hi there. I’ve been absent from the blog for a while. A long while. Let’s consider the past three months my creative hibernation…

I figured today was as good a time as any to jump back in since I have pieces in two exhibitions opening tonight!

While I haven’t been blogging or taking many photos lately, I have been working on other projects and business opportunities; I hope to start sharing more about all that in the coming weeks. Plus, I’m revving up to get out with my camera ASAP and often.

Opening tonight at the Franklin Arts Center in Brainerd, MN: Lush Vibes (isn’t that a great name for a spring show?). I’m exhibiting one of the images from the Never-Ending Wood series for the first time. It’s all about GREEN, the color I miss most this time of year.

Also opening tonight: Encroaching City at Flow Art Space, a group exhibition that ‘looks at city life juxtaposed with the natural environment, the relationship between humans and nature, and the footprint city living creates’.

08.26.13 prairie on fire !

I mentioned  that we made a trip to Morris, MN the other day. Today I’m excited to share the reason for our trip!

The University of Minnesota – Morris purchased these five pictures for the new, sustainable Green Prairie Living & Learning Community building on campus. That means the prints are also part of the University’s permanent collection!

These pictures are part of the ‘Winter Prairie’ series I worked on in 2013 featuring images from the urban prairie restoration garden near my home. I’m pleased that these wild prairie darlings are now permanently situated in their natural environment: a true prairie ecosystem in western Minnesota.

08.14.13 aesthetic utilities

I’m excited to be part of two current public art initiatives – in Minneapolis and Mankato – that will turn unsightly utility boxes into works of art. Love this type of civic initiative!

This is what the proposal/design layouts look like. Someday, when the boxes are complete, I’ll post photographs of the finished work!

Nokomis Piers: one of  12 designs selected by the City of Minneapolis for the utility box wrap project.

Wet Paint: recently chosen by CityArt Mankato as one of 10 designs kicking off the first phase of its Traffic Signal Mural Project.

Stay tuned for more art in public places and keep an eye out for art coming to a street corner near you 🙂

08.05.13 exhibition news: MacRostie Art Center

In lieu of a daily photo (yes, I flaked again), I have news from a new exhibition that opened last Friday. I’m so happy to be part of the 21st Annual Juried Exhibition this year at MacRostie Art Center!
