274/365: long shadows near mile  19

Sunday was the Twin Cities Marathon – always a festive occasion in Minneapolis but extra special this year because Brad ran it!! Despite in juries & training setbacks along the way, he gutted it out the full 26.2 miles and managed to have a smile on his face every time we saw him.  He’s not in this photo – one of the few I snapped all day – every time I saw him I was way too excited to think about my camera!

Way to go, babe. You did it and we couldn’t be more proud.

enjoy the ride

Friday night we got whisked away for a spontaneous group outing to the annual block party at Our Lady of Peace, a neighborhood church. The carnival rides lit up the night. Happy screams and dance music formed the soundtrack. That’s Zola on the far left, getting ready to give the ride operator a high five. Sometimes it’s great to let the whirlwind of life catch you up and carry you away.

We had a fantastic weekend with college friends in the Quad Cities and took part in the River Action Floatzilla down the Mississippi River. There were a lot of great shots I missed because I was too afraid to bring my camera in the canoe. Anyway, I was busy paddling, looking at pelicans, and frolicking around in the waves. And, while I didn’t get any pics, I did get this souvenir and plenty of memories.

224/365: zola on the bars

This is an apt portrait of my daughter Zola. She is particularly dogged about doing what she sets out to do (note the tongue sticking out to express true determination). She is also a cheeky little monkey.

The monkey bars never stood a chance.

dispatch from up north

Since I have a lot of catching up to do, I decided to break with form and put all my daily photos from our week at the lake into a single post (mainly to spare my email subscribers a total barrage of Terra).

We had a great time, as always. Memories were made, wildlife witnessed, great food consumed. Cold beer, boat rides, fishing, a grand parade. It was pretty much everything you could want from a week at the cabin (except, maybe, another week).

Two big plant sales left with me with full flats and an empty purse 🙂 Excited to be building a native plant garden this year! I can’t wait to shoot all these new-to-me flowers and meet all the insects these plants attract.
