281/365: self portrait with mirrors

blog101215_self-porotrait-franconia

My inaugural blog post was a self portrait. During my first 365 project in 2010, the distorted self portrait was one of my favorite subjects (selfies weren’t quite de rigueur yet). My interest in taking these photos dropped off somewhat but Sunday, in the bright autumn sun and the dazzle of art at Franconia Sculpture Park, my mirrored sunglasses were too much fun to ignore…you can’t see much of me, but you can get a sense: I’m a hat girl and I shoot Canon 🙂

We had a fantastic weekend with college friends in the Quad Cities and took part in the River Action Floatzilla down the Mississippi River. There were a lot of great shots I missed because I was too afraid to bring my camera in the canoe. Anyway, I was busy paddling, looking at pelicans, and frolicking around in the waves. And, while I didn’t get any pics, I did get this souvenir and plenty of memories.

diggin it

Two big plant sales left with me with full flats and an empty purse 🙂 Excited to be building a native plant garden this year! I can’t wait to shoot all these new-to-me flowers and meet all the insects these plants attract.

good clean dirt

I never liked wearing gardening gloves. So I was very happy to ditch them for good when new studies showed contact with dirt to be beneficial. Something gardeners have known all along, but fascinating to read about.

cabin fever

Over the last week, our cabin fever got LITERAL. The virus moved through our family one by one while another cold snap raged outside. The need to spread out and breathe fresh air is palpable.

It is this late stage of winter when fatigue sets in. Gut check time. 23 days till spring. We got this.

05.02.13 open water

The only picture I managed to get yesterday was this one – a shot of my finished wood block-mounted print – ‘Wave’ – for the 7th Annual ‘Open Water’ Exhibition. I’m pleased to be part of this show for the 2nd year. All the details – plus, the two other pieces I’ll have in the show this year – are included below.

03.21.13 work in progress

Today’s photo is actually a still from a video I was working on yesterday. That’s me talking about the public art project I’m working on. Remember that big tree? More to come…

03.13.13 reaching

Today’s photo is a good counterpart to Day #39, Up in the Air. I’m amazed at how telling these two disembodied self portraits are – apt expressions of my psyche at the moment of their creation.

If you had the thought: “she’s really reaching” –  the answer is “yep”.
