how do you like me now?

I talk a lot about actively seeing the world, paying attention, finding beauty in things that are commonly overlooked. But today’s image is a perfect example of how I sometimes fail to follow my own advice. I’ve said before that I like the hosta’s leaves far more than her flowers.  But of course the flowers are magnificent. I just needed to stop and look at them. I’m so glad I did.

bountiful harvest

A full day of making in the studio finished up with loads of local harvest prints. Exciting to be back in this season of plenty. I’ll be glad to create some mouthwatering new images while dreaming up the next meal. Getting ready for Art at St. Kate’s a week from Saturday. Let there be sun…

flowers always & always

This day I only managed product shots so I selected one to share that I think manages to still inspire. Back in May, I sent out flowers and inspiring quotations via email to everyone on my mailing list. They are the same image/word pairings on my line of recycled brown kraft note cards. Each card features a colorful fine art floral print on the front matched with beautiful words on the back.

Join my mailing list to stay in touch and receive future flower deliveries, news, and inspiration. Or, buy a set of cards in my Etsy shop.

Post title is part of a Claude Monet quote: “I must have flowers always, and always.”

shine on

One of the many beautiful things about gardens is the way the flowers complement and contrast with one another  at the same time that each one is is busy being its own individual miracle.

One shining star doesn’t throw the rest of the garden into shadow – it just helps every other thing to shine more brightly.

good measure

It was a studio day filled with sunshine & productivity by my two fantastic helpers. I call them Mom and Dad. I’m excited to be preparing for the first art fair of spring, designing new products, and dreaming of all the new garden photos to come.

sweet nothings

Love is in the air and in the studio. One of the things I’ve been working on this week is designing a few new Valentine’s Day cards. In addition to my fine art practice, I own a business called Avant Garden Studio. I design & make artful goods like cards, journals, and calendars that feature my photography and, often, some bit of text as well.

I’ll be building an online shop for Avant Garden Studio later this year. For now, these cards are available on my Etsy shop with FREE shipping to U.S. addresses. 8 days left till Valentine’s Day…xoxo

all work

I never made it out of the studio yesterday with my camera but I did take plenty of product shots. Coming soon to my Etsy shop: these recycled pocket journals. This is a rare peek inside & shows off the cool dot-grid paper I’ve come to love. I design the covers. I’ll show you sometime…

portrait of a superhero

I delight in coming across found objects like this – deliberately placed for random discovery. I always think of them as little gifts left, anonymously, for the enjoyment, consideration, or puzzlement of whoever happens to take notice.

Hang in there, Spiderman. This, too, shall pass…
