junco?

Fortunately Brad and I were having a bird ID dispute on the deck. We just put up the feeder and, while we were at the cabin, the birds discovered it.

Brad claimed they were juncos. I didn’t believe him so I took a really bad picture on his phone. It turned out to be the only shot of the day.

You will notice that there are NO birds in THIS picture. But I’m still happy. I salvaged something and managed to NOT miss a day taking a picture. In spite of myself.

unexpected guest

The new dark gray deck stain provided a perfect backdrop for my exotic visitor. This long-haired wonder hung out on the railing most of the day, giving me the perfect thing to shoot while the 2nd coat dried.

paint it black

The deck make-over took over much of my time & energy last week. It isn’t really black but such a very dark gray that it still convey all of black’s modern swagger. It’s a dramatic transformation from the beat-up cedar finish and I couldn’t be happier with the change. Well worth the sweat. Now comes the fun part: living outdoors as much as possible till the snow flies…

april showers

What a difference a day makes! Yesterday was gray and raw with a much-needed April shower.

Reflections never fail me! I stood out in the rain just long enough to glimpse our budding silver maple in the mirrored puddles. I thought it made a good contrast to yesterday’s brilliant yellow-green sugar maple buds.
