245/365: sawyer, minnehaha creek

blog090615_Sawyer-in-the-creek

The whole family went swimming in the creek the other day – even Rocco. It’s always a great place to snap pictures: the black water makes a dramatic backdrop and my subjects are so busy having fun that they forget all about the camera.

224/365: zola on the bars

blog081615_zola-monkey-bars

This is an apt portrait of my daughter Zola. She is particularly dogged about doing what she sets out to do (note the tongue sticking out to express true determination). She is also a cheeky little monkey.

The monkey bars never stood a chance.

all smiles

I was kind of a lazy photographer on this trip to the cabin. Saturday was so gorgeous, so uncharacteristically warm & sunny for mid-May in northern Minnesota, I just soaked it up and sat near the water as much as possible.

These shots were taken near dusk when our 8-month-old puppy, Rocco, decided to take a seat next to Brad and join us at the picnic table after dinner. He not only got away with it, he seemed to fit right in.

07.03.13 we are families

This mama duck visited the cabin throughout the week with her brood of seven ducklings. So did Brad’s cousins and their kids. On this hot afternoon, when all the kids were in the lake, the ducklings came shockingly close to swimming with our extended brood before Mama gave the signal and they all scuttled away.

03.31.13 happy / birthday

I’ve been in love with this boy since the moment our eyes first met. Deep thinker, inventor, total goofball, nature lover. This kid came wired with kindness and compassion as well as a love of drama. And sweatpants. Something about Sawyer just tugs at your heart and makes you feel happy.  Especially when he’s happy too.

03.04.13 love times three

I don’t post a lot of family pictures but once in a while there is one I just have to share. This picture is a perfect expression of our family life. We are blessed with an abundance of love, true interest in each other, and real, sweet affection. Zola’s smile says it all: life really is good.
