fun with nature: what is it??

I was going to call this post ‘flora galora‘ but then it occurred to me that there’s more than plants growing here. I was blown away by the weird biota on this old tree stump – both beautiful and kind of grotesque.

I would love to know just what all I was looking at. What is it? Particularly the black oozy stuff. If you know, please ID in the comments. My best guess is some type of fungus…
